What's with the title?

The term kenosis comes from the Greek word κενόω (ken-o'-o). This term is most often referred to in reference to one specific verse: Philippians 2:7. Here Paul references the sacrifices that Jesus made to become human. Jesus gave up some of the privileges of being God so that He could come and save humanity. 

Paul in Philippians 2:1-5 encourages the church at Phillippi to have the same mind. He goes on to say that they should have the mind of Christ who humbled (kenosis) himself and became human. Paul is declaring that for Christians to be like Christ we must humble ourselves.

I chose to title my blog Contemplating Kenosis, because that is what this blog is about. I am considering the ways that I can live out the humility of Jesus every day. The tag line says it all. Seeking to live His example.
